Shades of Green

Rating G
These characters all belong to the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien. This story was written for pleasure and not for financial gain.

Is the forest not beautiful?” Legolas asked his companion.

Gimli snorted.

“The trees are most fair.” The Elf put out his hand to caress the trunk of a slender birch. “Surely, you have something to say, Gimli?”

“They are green,” said the Dwarf.

“Green? Is that all you can say? They are myriad hues of lime and jade, and sage and olive. The sunlight and  wind changes the colours even as you behold them.

Gimli snorted again. “As I said, they are green.”

“You should see the leaves in their autumn splendour friend.”

“They are brown then and fall down.”
