Taken by Surprise

These characters all belong to the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien. This story was written for pleasure and not for financial gain.
The preparations had been made in haste for his guests’ arrival. It was long since Elrond’s children had been babes; it took an effort to recall what children liked, other than familiar objects and bright colours. A vase of cheerful marigolds and a burnt orange rug might make the room look more welcoming and a blue blanket for the child’s cot.
A servant announced. “Lady Gilraen and her son are here.”
His keen eyes took in a young woman, of dignified demeanour and sorrowful gaze, carrying a little boy. The child opened drowsy eyes and smiled. Elrond’s heart was lost.

I love having you on my list.
