November Teitho Theme

October 25th 2013, Teitho headquarters
Dear Teitho author,

we would like to inform you about our new theme for November. Our new challenge is, as you can maybe guess, Letters, suggested by AmazingWriter123.

The cool thing about this theme is, that you can interpret it in any way you want - it can be a topic as well as a form challenge. You can write about letters sent and received, about the different alphabets of Middle-earth, but you can also write your story in the form of a letter, or even more letters exchanged between two persons.

Take a pen and paper, and start writing. How? Well, first you need to invent a letter system, and you have an alphabet. Middle-earth had several of those, reflecting Mr. Tolkien's linguistic hobby: the Elvish tengwar with their own history and variations, Dwarven runes... Learning to write them, using and interpreting them (or not), this is what your story or picture can be about.

Now put the letters into words and write down what you want to tell to someone far away... and you have a letter. Its content can be very various. It can be a love letter, an order from a king to one of his lords, a letter to the family... Letters had to be especially important to all those who men who served in the army far away from home, as their only contact with their loved ones. You can create a story or picture about writing, sending or receiving a letter, or about the importance of such letter in a given situation.

The third option is writing your story in the form of a letter, or letter exchange. The letters themselves can be about anything, from love letters to official summons to a trial, and everything between.

The deadline for this challenge is November 25th. If you need an extension, let us know! (We do not bite.)

For writers: send your stories to teitho.contest@gmail.com. As usually, the contest is anonymous and the story can't be posted publicaly until the results of the challenge are announced. Aragorn or Legolas don't have to be main characters, but at least one of them must be mentioned in the story.

For artists: Submit your picture into the Teitho gallery folder of Arda-Inspired at deviantArt. The picture should be new, drawn specifically for the challenge. State that you are submitting it to the contest in the artist's comments.
Happy writing and drawing!

Sincerely,
Your Teitho-moderators,
StarLight and Mirach
