Aragorn clasped Éowyn’s hand. “Awake!” he called, then as her eyelids moved, he slipped her hand into Éomer’s and left the chamber.
For a moment, he lingered on the threshold, his heart full of sorrow. Alas, that so fair a maiden had felt compelled to ride to war through hopeless love of him! She was like a wild bird trapped in a cage, or a tender shoot stunted by hard frost.
He saw her eyes open and recognise her brother, but her gaze was sorrowful and empty of hope.
He had called her back to life, but not to health.
A/n. I'd like to get back to writing drabbles, but whether I'll succeed is another matter as my drabble Muses seem to have gone into hiding.
