It had been a hard winter, the hardest Faramir could remember.
The enemy grew ever bolder, while the very elements seemed to conspire against the Ithilien Rangers. The icy winds breathed malice while the hail battered them with the ferocity of spears and arrows.
Worse still, there was no news of Boromir.
Faramir watched the gulls fly inland seeking shelter, their shrill cries borne on the wind. He closed his eyes and recalled blissful summers in Dol Amroth. The memories consoled him when even the icicles resembled frozen tears.
Maybe one day, hope would come again to his beloved land.
