River - Against the Current

Title: Against the Current
Author: Linda Hoyland
Characters/Pairing: Aragorn
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Book/Source: LOTR book-verse

Long had I desired to look upon the carven faces of Elendil’s sons. The sight did not disappoint me. For a moment my heart soared. I, Elendil’s heir was returning.

Then the enormity of my heritage and our mission seized me. Gandalf had fallen, Denethor would scarce welcome me and should I not accompany Frodo even to the very heart of Mordor?

Sometimes the heaviness of the burden laid upon me almost crushes me. But I am not like a leaf floating in the water, with no power to resist the current. The river leads me onward to my destiny.
