“The harvest is even better than I dared hope for,” said Faramir. As far as the eye could see the fields of wheat stretched, while vivid poppies and cornflowers flourished amidst the swollen ears of grain. “I have so much to be thankful for. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect such bounty.”

“You defied your father’s decree and helped the Hobbits, recognised my rightful claim to the throne, comforted  Lady Éowyn in her sorrow, and now you have your well- deserved reward,” said the King. ““You sowed wisely and now you will reap the fruits of your labours.”

“What are you sowing?” Damrod asked Faramir.

“Poppy seeds, a gift from Ambassador Tahir,” Faramir replied.

“You would plant seeds from Harad in good Ithilien soil?” Damrod asked in horror.

“We should have a fine crop from them to use to flavour our food or make medicines to relieve pain ,” said Faramir.

“I know they have their uses, but the Haradrim spilled Gondorian blood on this soil!”

Faramir held up his hand and let the tiny seeds trickle through his fingers. “Far better to sow the seeds of peace than to see the blood of more good men spilled.”
