The Omen

`Prophet!' said I, `thing of evil! - prophet still, if bird or devil! -
Whether tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted -
On this home by horror haunted - tell me truly, I implore -
Is there - is there balm in Gilead? - tell me - tell me, I implore!'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.' - Edgar Allen Poe

The sun shone brightly in a cloudless azure sky.

Faramir saw his betrothed standing beside her brother. She was glad all in green and her eyes sparkled like stars. Surely, no man had ever wooed and won a fairer maid?

The newly crowned King caught his Steward’s eye and smiled; his eyes full of friendly warmth.

Faramir’s heart was filled with rapture. Sorrow and despair had turned to joy and hope. The day he had long dreamed of had finally come to pass. The Dark Lord was overthrown, the King had returned and he had lived to see such marvels.

Where once had been death there was now life; a living tree stood in place of the old withered trunk, its slender branches laden with perfect white blossoms. A sweet scent emanated from the blooms and filled the evening air with fragrance.

Faramir stood rooted to the spot, his soul filled with rapture at this sign that the land he loved would blossom and flourish once more.

“Our new tree pleases you?”

Faramir blinked away tears of joy as he turned to answer the King. “How could it not, sire? Legends have sprung to life before mine eyes, Envinyatar.“

A/n And so concludes another drabble series. This series is dedicated to rakshathedemon on the occasion of her birthday.
