They would relieve him at sundown. The dark clouds overhead blotted out the sun, making it impossible to tell whether the sun would set one hour or two from hence.
Suddenly the heavens opened and rain began to fall; the first heavy droplets rapidly becoming a torrent.
Caught under the rain curtain Aragorn sought some shelter, but the hedgerow provided scant respite. Rapidly water soaked through his clothing and dripped down his neck; he winced as the icy droplets ran down his spine.
Aragorn thought longingly of shelter and warm fires. Only through the Rangers’ watches could any enjoy them.
