We arrived at just after 9am which for an owl like me is very early and went straight to the refreshments room. There was unlimited tea and coffee available. We shared that room with another group and were also allocated a room of our own.We
We had 2 study sessions about the Book of Jonah and 2 short prayer meetings in the chapel, the second one with candles.
We also had plenty of free time to explore and I went down the hill with one of the other ladies, M. We looked at the maze but weren't brave enough to explore. M fetched her car to get me back up the hill. The air is lovely, blowing off the River Mersey.
I didn't much enjoy lunch which was curry so ate some bread and mango chutney instead. The carrot soup was nice.Desert was a very tiny helping of some kind of mousse.
Dinner was roast pork for the meat-eaters and cheese pie for me with roast potatoes and vegetables followed by cheesecake. We all sat at a long table.
Afterwards some of the group tried to teach me to play Monopoly before evening prayers. It seemed everlasting but something I wanted to do once in my life.
We had a good laugh before dinner as one of the staff asked was Mavis who was allergic to garlic part of our group. Our vicar is allergic to garlic and her name is nothing like Mavis. We called her that over dinner.
The vicar's husband then kindly took me home as I didn't wish to leave my boys. They were happy to see me as I don't think I'd left them 14 hours before. I brought a slice of roast pork one of the ladies didn't want to make up for leaving them.
It was a tiring day but well worth it as I really felt in a different world and had a great time.
