The end of an era

I have just posted the final chapter of “A Time to Reap” and with it ends an era which began about years ago with “Shadow and Thought” which much to my surprise became the first of a quartet of linked novels showing the development of Aragorn and Faramir’s relationship.

Tolkien makes it clear that in LOTR that Faramir is drawn towards Aragorn (It seems to be love at first sight for everyone Aragorn meets in the book bar Orcs!) and in an earlier draft used the phase “Love sprang between them”. I have tried to depict a transition from Faramir greatly admiring Aragorn, but fearing him, while Aragorn is always kindly but maybe condescending at times to a loving father and son relationship where each knows the other is flawed, but likes them the better for it.
I have written in more detail here
http://www.freewebs.com/lindahoyland/backgroundinformation.htm

As well as Tolkien’s work, I have been inspired by everything from Wagner’s “Ring “ Cycle to “The Bible” and “Arthurian legends.

As long as the Muse permits, I hope Aragorn and Faramir as well as their wives and children will have more adventures.

I do hope to write at least one more novel, but intend to concentrate more on short stories in the future. I have, at a guess, around 40 short stories that need polishing that so far have only been shared with the AA Group. I have found “A Time to Reap” has proved less popular than my other novels, so feel short stories are maybe the best thing to mostly concentrate on. I do intend to link some of the stories like in “A Hunting we will Go” to create something more substantial.

All my stories are intended to be seen as one long story unless I state otherwise such as with “Sour Milk” and a handful of drabbles.

A very big thank you to Raksha for all her help with “A Time to Reap” and to everyone who has supported me with your kind comments.

Thank you to everyone who has voted in my polls which are still open for further votes and comments.

I am hoping, all being well, in the future to continue “Healing the Healer” and take Aragorn and Faramir to the coast. Other stories lurking on my hard drive include a fall from a cliff, a return to the lake, new uses for Aragorn’s healing skills and a misunderstanding concerning tubs of lard!
